- HOW TO ENTER: Contest participant (“participant”) must create a short video in English, no more than three minutes long; or an essay in English, no more than 1,000 words long, illustrating why and how a specific priest demonstrates an exemplary priesthood. The video must feature only one priest who does not have to be known personally by the participant.
- Because the video and essay will be posted online, please do not include any information you would not want to share in a public forum.
- For essay submissions you must email us (contest@catholiccompany.com) with the following information:
- Your name and age
- Contact information - Mailing Address, Phone Number, Email Address
- Title of your essay
- Name of priest being submitted and his ministry or parish

- Your essay should include, and will be judged and voted on, the following criteria:
- Priest’s positive impact on your life, his parish, community and/or society
- Creativity and Quality of essay submitted
- Mention the contest and The Catholic Company in the first two lines of the essay
- Identify the priest and his parish or ministry
- For video submissions you must first set up a free YouTube account. When you upload your video, be sure to title it “Year For Priests”, so it will be easier for us to locate it. Then email us (contest@catholiccompany.com) with the following information:
- Your name and age
- Contact information - Mailing Address, Phone Number, Email Address
- Title and URL of Your Video
- Name of priest being submitted and his ministry or parish
- Your YouTube user name

- Your video should include, and will be judged and voted on, the following criteria:
- Priest’s positive impact on your life, his parish, community and/or society
- Creativity and Quality of video submitted
- Mention the contest and The Catholic Company in the first 20 seconds
- Identify the priest and his parish or ministry
- Submissions will be accepted June 19, 2009 through June 18, 2010, only one entry per person/email/street address. Participant must be 18 years of age or over as of the time of submission.
- This contest is open to legal residents of the 50 United States and Washington, DC except for employees of The Catholic Company and Trinity Road, LLC, and all companies contributing prizes, judges, and members of their immediate families.
- There will be a monthly winner selected by The Catholic Company, and announced on the 19th of each month, beginning on July 19, 2009, for a total of eleven (11) monthly winners during the contest period. These eleven (11) monthly winners, plus additional entries selected from throughout the entire contest period, will become the contest Finalists (maximum of 20 finalists). From these finalists, a grand prize winner will be voted on during the period June 19, 2010 through July 18, 2010, and selected through a combination of votes by:
- The Catholic Company - 33-1/3%
- Panel of Qualified Judges - 33-1/3%
- Public Voting - 33-1/3%
- Grand Prize winner will be announced on or about July 19, 2010. In the event of a tie, such tied entries will be re-judged by a qualified “tie-breaking” judge based on the above criteria.
- Your entry must be your own original work, and may not have been published previously, entered in any other contest or have won any other award. Entries must not violate any copyright laws and must conform to YouTube video submission guidelines
- Submission of an entry grants the Sponsor the exclusive right to edit, illustrate, abridge, modify and publish the entry for any and all purposes in any media whether currently in existence or hereafter invented (including but not limited to print and digital media) without further compensation to the entrant or winner.
- The Finalists and the Priest submitted by each of them, will receive a $100 Shopping Spree for merchandise available at www.catholiccompany.com.
- One (1) grand prize winner will be selected. The submitter will receive a $500 Shopping Spree for merchandise available at www.catholiccompany.com. The priest will receive an 8-day tour of Rome. The tour must be scheduled and completed within twelve (12) months from the winner announcement date. Any additional party(ies) who might choose to travel with the priest on the tour will be responsible for all of their own expenses. Tour information may be viewed at: http://www.thecatholictraveler.com. All terms, conditions, and disclaimers as stated on tour operator’s web site are in force and applicable to the rules of this contest. A comparable or better tour operator may be selected at sponsors’ discretion. If travel is impossible for the priest, a $2,000 Shopping Spree for merchandise available at www.catholiccompany.com will be substituted.
- Approximate retail value of Grand Prize is $2,000. Actual value may vary based on location and timing of departure. Departure airport will be designated by tour operator, and it is the responsibility of the contest winner to provide his own transportation to and from the departing airport. All other expenses (for items not included in tour package) are the responsibility of the winner. Any charges or penalties associated with changes made to any reservation following confirmation will be the responsibility of winner.
- Monthly winners will be notified by telephone and/or email on the 19th of each month. Additional finalists (see #6) will be notified approximately June 19, 2010. Grand prize winners will be notified by telephone, mail and/or email on or about July 19, 2010. Each winner will be required to comply with all instructions in the prize notification letter and may be required to sign an affidavit of eligibility, a liability release, a publishing rights release and a publicity release (where permitted by law). If the completed signed forms are not received within 14 days of the date printed on the notification, prize may be forfeited and the entrant with the next highest scoring entry will be selected as the alternate winner. By accepting the prize, winner agrees that Contest Entities, their officers, directors, agents, and employees will have no liability or responsibility for any injuries, losses, or damages of any kind resulting from participation in the contest and/or the acceptance, possession, or use of any prize and they will be held harmless against any claims of liability arising directly or indirectly from participation in the contest or the prizes awarded. By entering, participants warrant that their entries are original and that Contest Entities’ use of any material submitted will not violate any rights of any other person or entity, including, without limitation, any copyrights. Participants further agree to indemnify and hold Contest Entities harmless from any claims arising from Contest Entities’ use of entrants’ or winners’ submissions.
- Entries will not be acknowledged or returned. No telephone calls will be accepted. Contest sponsor is not responsible for late or misdirected entries or technical malfunctions and may suspend, modify or terminate the contest in the latter event. In the event of early termination, judging and selection of winners will take place using all eligible entries received prior to termination. Entries will not be returned to entrants.
- No substitutions or transfers of prizes by the winners will be allowed. Sponsor may substitute a prize of equal or greater value.
- Liability for any applicable taxes and any other expenses not expressly included in the prize will be the sole responsibility of the winners. Any required tax reporting forms will be furnished to the IRS.
- By entering this contest and/or by accepting a prize, you agree to accept these contest rules and the decisions of the judges, which are final.
- This Contest is subject to federal, state and local laws with venue in Mecklenburg County, in the State of North Carolina. By entering, you agree to be bound by these rules and you give your express permission to be contacted by Sponsor by e-mail and/or mail. NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED.
- Winners will be posted at www.catholiccompany.com when they are announced.
